README FILE FOR CUSTOM MAP "THEODEN'S TOMB" FOR BLADE OF
DARKNESS
CREATED BY
LEGOLAS, SUMMER / AUTUMN 2002
Please
take a minute to read this file, there are some important hints on gameplay and
making the map work properly!
Version 2.0
Improvements: F1-weapon-tab included, saving possible, English
translation of
the spell.mp3's text
Still to be fixed: unfortunately there are severe problems after loading
a savegame
when you take the Chaos
Sword ("Narsil"), the Holy Sword ("Yavanna's Sword") or
the crown (No irony, but:
take these items before you save+load; you need the holy
sword to end the game …
sorry)
CONTENT OF THIS README
FILE:
1. INSTALLATION SINGLEPLAYER AND GLADIATOR
2. INSTALLATION MULTIPLAYER (ARENA)
1.
INSTALLATION SINGLEPLAYER AND GLADIATOR
*
Copy the unzipped stuff into BODLoader\Maps\TheodensTomb
*
From the game's main menu select
MODS
-> LOAD CUSTOM MAP -> THEODENSTOMB -> INSTALL
*
Now it can be chosen from "Gladiator" and "Load a custom map".
2.
INSTALLATION MULTIPLAYER (ARENA)
*
If there is a directory "TheodensTombMP" delivered with this version,
you
only
have to copy this directory directly into your \Maps-directory of Blade of
Darkness.
That's all. Now you should be able to select the map in the Arena's menu.
*
In Gladiator you start in the great hall with the statues. If you want
to
play (and start) in the deeper hall with the red atmosphere you have
to
exchange the file "theodenstomb.glad" by "theodenstomb.alt"
(backup the
.glad
and rename the .alt into .glad)
*
The file MESSAGE.JPG contains the information of the parchment near the
dead
dwarf in the book room at the beginning. You should read this
file
before you start the game.
*
The parchment must be taken into hand to trigger its rune-door
function
(can be dropped at once again). The moment you take it
there
will be a new music and the message "The rune can be passed now".
Sometimes
it is a bit difficult to select the parchment (in order to take it).
Then
try a bit with your position and angle of view.
*
When you encounter new enemies it is recommended not to run away
too
far, since you will encounter even more enemies.
*
THE HOLY SWORD (Ianna's Sword = Yavanna's Sword in my map) DOES EXIST!
When you have it, the key for the lock
"Yavanna's Sword required" will
appear
automatically in front of that lock.
*
It is not easy to balance the difficulty. If you think that is too hard or
too
easy, try the Difficulty-Mod (http://www.dahly.net/games/blade).
*
Even when the red loading bar is full it may take another 10 - 30 seconds to
load.
*
If you carry the Sword of Death right from the beginning, than everything works
properly,
if you haven't got this sword then you should have to reload the map
(only
reload, not reinstall). I have done that as a kind of check (especially
for
me during bulding the map).
*
HAVING INSTALLED THE MAP THE FIRST TIME, YOU NEED AN EMPTY DIRECTORY
"Pak"
IN
..\Maps\TheodensTomb (the normal one, not BODLoader\Maps\TheodensTomb)
If
there is no such empty Pak-subdirectory delivered with the zip-file, you
can:
1.
create it on your own before you start the first time; or:
2.
loading the map twice on your first playing
*
Remind: Carrying the Sword of Death right from the beginning
indicates
that everything works properly.
* Do not change any file or
directory in structure or content both in multi- or singleplayer. Especially
the
multi
mode requires exactly the same files among all players.
*
The file spell.mp3 is ripped from "In Extremo: Verehrt und Angespien".
The
song's title is "Merseburger Zauberspruch" ("Spell of
Merseburg", a
medieval
town in Germany). Its text is Old High German and from the 8th
century
(Idisi are some kind of Valkyries):
Eiris sazun idisi, sazun
hera duoder.
Suma hapt
heptidun, suma heri lezidun.
Suma clubodun umbi couniowidi:
Insprinc haptbandun, invar
vigandun.
(modern) German
translation:
Einst
setzten sich Idisi, setzten sich hierhin und dorthin.
Einige
hefteten Haft, andere hemmten das Heer,
Andere
nestelten an den Fesseln:
Entspring
den Haftbanden, entfahr den Feinden.
English
translation:
Once
Idisi sat down, sat here and there
Some
fixed/caused custody, others stopped the [hostile] army
Some
fumbled around with the chains: [to free own warriors]
Escape
from the chains, escape from the enemies
*
It has nothing to do with Tolkien's Middle Earth. But it sounds great and
suits
to the map's atmosphere.
*
To hear it in Gladiator, you can enter the path of the file in the Glad's
music
settings, or copy it into your custom directory.
